USPS and Spree integration
USPS is the United States Postal Service. This government agency was founded almost 250 years ago, in 1775, as a federal entity. USPS, also known as the postal service or US Mail, offers domestic mail delivery services.
The integration of USPS with your Spree Commerce store can be done quickly and easily following the guidelines mentioned below.
The benefits of using USPS for your eCommerce business
If you’re operating on the US market and ship mostly to American customers, you should definitely consider USPS as one of your delivery methods.
USPS is by far the cheapest shipping option for light items.
If you are shipping items under 2 pounds, USPS will always be cheaper than FedEx or UPS. USPS really shines when your package weighs less than 13 oz and can be mailed via First Class mail.
How to integrate USPS with Spree
USPS has a solution to integrate with your e-commerce site called Web Tools. The Web Tools API library enables external e-commerce shopping cart and shipping software to access USPS data (free of charge). From shipping rates to tracking information to scheduling a package pickup, Web Tools makes shipping with the U.S. Postal Service easy.
STEP 1. SIGN UP
Complete the online registration form. You’ll receive an email with your User ID.
STEP 2. DOCUMENTATION
Explore API Technical Docs and use the provided Quick Code to test in your favorite browser. View Documentation & Updates
STEP 3. PERMISSIONS
Once registered, you’ll receive an email with your assigned Web Tools User ID. You’ll then have access to the most popular offerings like the shipping rate, tracking information, and ZIP™ code APIs. For access to more secure APIs, like Label Printing and Package Pickup, you’ll need additional permissions. Contact USPS Internet Customer Care Center ([email protected]) with the following information:
- “Web Tools API Access” in the subject line of the email
- Which Label APIs you want to access
- If you’ll be modifying the label image
Check out the USPS website for more information.
However, the easiest way to integrate your ecommerce store with USPS is through a shipping platform like Shippo, ShipWire, EasyPost, or ShipStation.

Thanks to Shippo you don’t need to integrate with each of the carriers individually, you can get all the rates at once. And, as if that was not enough, you can get your shipping labels with only a few clicks on the Shippo dashboard. – Maria Syczewska, Senior Backend Developer, Spark Solutions
