# Sellers

> Run a marketplace — other businesses list on your store, ship their own orders, and get paid their share.

A seller is another business selling through your store. They list their own products, ship their own orders from their own locations, and are paid their share of each sale, less the commission you charge. Everything a seller does happens in their own **seller panel** — they never see your dashboard, other sellers, or anything belonging to the store at large.

A marketplace can sell its own stock too. A product with no seller is yours, so a store that is part shop, part marketplace is a normal setup.

## What a seller owns

| Theirs | Yours |
| - | - |
| Their products — listed by them, approved by you | The catalog as a whole, categories, collections, pricing rules |
| Their stock locations, delivery methods and packaging | Delivery profiles and zones, which sellers pick from |
| Their orders, fulfilled from their own locations | The customer, the payment, the order group that ties a checkout together |
| Their team, their profile page, their policies | Commission rates, payouts, the onboarding checklist |

## Where things live

Sellers has its own section of the dashboard, and two settings pages beside it:

* **Sellers** — every seller, their status, and their page: [Managing sellers](/docs/user/sellers/managing-sellers)
* **Commission rates** — what you charge on each sale: [Commission rates](/docs/user/sellers/commission-rates)
* **Transfers** and **Payouts** — what each seller has earned and been paid: [Payouts](/docs/user/sellers/payouts)
* **Settings → Seller requirements** — the checklist a seller completes before you approve them: [Onboarding](/docs/user/sellers/onboarding)
* **Settings → Marketplace** — how and when sellers are paid

## The shape of a marketplace sale

1. A seller [lists a product](/docs/user/sellers/products) and you approve it.
2. A customer buys it — possibly alongside products from other sellers — in one checkout. Spree splits that into [one order per seller](/docs/user/sellers/orders), under one order group, paid once.
3. The seller ships their order from their panel.
4. Shipping records what they earned, less [commission](/docs/user/sellers/commission-rates), on their ledger.
5. On schedule, those earnings settle into a [payout](/docs/user/sellers/payouts).
